Hi, I'm Theda

Microbes run the show — I study how they shape ecosystems.

I am a full‑stack systems biologist (wet lab + bioinformatics) focused on disentangling ecosystem dynamics by centering the oldest, foundational partners: prokaryotes. During my PhD I treated the human as an ecosystem especially the gut, learned how bacteria influence health and disease and how to model/analyse metagenomes (Forslund Lab). Now I’ve zoomed out: prokaryotes in whole ecosystems, their role in evolutionary change, and how to read their past via paleogenomics + geochemical records with confounder‑aware statistics.

Overview / Projects

Ecology and evolution belong together. Through accessible visuals and interactive storytelling I keep microbes in view, because otherwise we are half-blind.
